Welcome to the Health Promotion and Maintenance category of nursing practice on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). As part of the NCLEX-RN examination, health promotion and maintenance are included among the four categories of patient/client needs. This category will make up approximately 6 to 12% of the exam.

Most Registered Nurses work in long-term care facilities, where they care for people with chronic illnesses. In this practice test, you will learn about the importance of following an appropriate diet, being physically active, washing your hands thoroughly, and keeping yourself clean.
You will also learn about the legal issues surrounding informed consent, and how to evaluate a patient for depression. Even though it isn’t the biggest category on the exam. It includes many subcategories related to pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care.
